Artist's Description
Digges Choice. The area of York and Adams Counties that now includes Hanover through Littlestown was originally granted to John Digges from Lord Baltimore. It was surveyed in 1732 and again in 1745 to determine the boundaries. Disputes between Maryland and Pennsylvania over the land continued until the King of England ordered a survey by Charles Mason and Jeremiah Dixon in 1763. This survey affixed the legal boundaries among Delaware, Maryland and Pennsylvania that exist today.
